  • Hands-free
  • Jump-start Technology
I was looking for a speaker for my phone to use around the house, and weekends at work. iLuv has made a name for itself over the years and the fact that this speaker was Bluetooth as well, convinced me. Out of the box it's a solid device. It has a nice weight to it and the build quality is really there. I'm not big on the rubber buttons, but it's splash resistant so they are more function than form. The buttons are still very responsive and easy to locate/use.

Sound quality is pretty great from such a small unit. It has a nice range and while the bass won't rattle your windows out of their casings, it's there and sounds good. They have an impressive clarity. The only disappointment is that they're not terribly loud. Depending on the size of your barbeque or pool party, these may not work. They do get loud mind you, I just don't know that they would be able to compete with outside ambient noise, swimming/splashing, laughing/conversations, etc.

Bluetooth works great. Easily paired with my iPhone 5 with no issue.

iLuv MobiOut Splash Resistant Bluetooth Speakerphone option works well. Play/pause button switches over to phone mode. The person on the other end was able to hear me fine and I was able to hear them clearly.

Battery life is phenomenal. Easily lasted through a nine hour shift at work with life to spare. Charges fairly quickly as well.

The jump-start function is one I'm on the fence with. You can connect your phone via USB to the speaker and flip a switch and it will use its internal battery to charge your phone. Two concerns. First, you can't use the speaker when it's charging your phone. I understand that it would probably be too taxing on the battery, but it's still annoying to not have the music while you're waiting for your phone to charge to play the music. In a bind where you needed your phone charged I guess it'd be helpful though. Second, It charges very slowly. So, not only can you not listen to the music while it charges, you have to wait a while before your phone is charged enough to provide music for any lengthy period of time.

Lastly, there's no battery indicator. It'd be nice to know where the battery life is before taking it anywhere so

iLuv MobiOut Splash Resistant Bluetooth you know if you should charge it first or not. Also with the Jump-start function, if the speaker is almost dead, then using it to charge my phone may be a waste of time. Or if I used it to charge my phone completely, if I could tell where the battery life was at, I could have just charged my phone to 50% so the speaker could have enough life left to play music.

Seventy five bucks is a lot of money for a phone speaker. However, the MobiOut Speaker may have enough features to justify the cost. It has loud, clear, sound output but maybe not loud enough to compete with a full blown outdoor shindig. The Jump-start feature is a nice backup to get you out of a jam when your phone is dead, but don't expect to be back up to 100% battery in minutes, hours is a more reasonable expectation. The speaker charges fast and battery life is astounding. However, the absence of a battery life indicator is a bit puzzling and often leaves you in the dark as to how much party is left in the speaker. Bluetooth pairing is simple out of the box meaning you'll be ready to go in no time. Speakerphone functionality works great. Overall if you're looking for a quality speaker that is a jack of all trades, iLuv earns their seventy five bucks with this device.
