Digital Product Review: Disney Premier Washable Playard, The Lion King review
We spent a lot of time comparing playards at Toys R Us and reading reviews on Amazon. We had a tough time finding proper reviews for Ingenuity playards on Amazon (especially compared to the plethora of Graco reviews), so we were a bit skeptical. But while at the store, all the Graco playards seemed rickety and shoddy, while this Ingenuity playard seemed sturdy and well made. The clincher was the changing table: the one on Graco playards is all flexy and unsupportive. It bends on a whim and barely holds up any weight at all. But the changing table on the Ingenuity playard is stiff and solid, yet swings out of the way easily.
The whole thing is very well thought out for pretty much all the stages of our daughter's baby life. It's very configurable for all our needs. Everything about it is easily washable.
I really only have 2 minor gripes.
First, it's tricky to fold up. The release mechanisms for the sides are hidden under fabric and are tought to get the hang of initially. You have to lift up on the side, then find the switch for the release mechanism by feeling around, and then lower the bar while holding that switch. After a few tries, I got much better at it, but the first times were very difficult.
Second, this thing may be "portable", but it is NOT lightweight. Don't plan on carrying it around long distances. Also, most of the accessories don't fit within the conveniently compact carrying case that they show off on the box. You'll be dragging along the changing table, the accessory tray and a few other things when you travel, if you intend to use those parts. It's a lot bulkier than it seems.
Those minor complaints aren't enough to take away a star from the rating, though. I feel this is the best playard I could've gotten for the money, and I'm real happy with it.
One final note: while this is technically the "Lion King" edition of this product, there's no blatant Diseny-ism to it. The characters depicted are generic enough that they could be anyone or anything. I liked the brown and green color scheme, which is why I picked it.
For the record, I paid $108 for this at Toys R Us after a bunch of deals and rebates. Go to the customer service counter and see what they can do for you, it's amazing the rebates and coupons a motivated sales associate can find when you ask them to, and it can save you a ton of money.
